Vagrant Story was actually meant to be a series name, with the first game the first episode known as The Phantom Pain. While Vagrant Story is not labeled with a Final Fantasy title, the game was designed by Yasumi Matsuno, the director and story creator for Final Fantasy Tactics and the original director for Final Fantasy XII, so any similarities between these games are not coincidental.
